Those wishing to join a pro-life ministry can attend Life Fest set for Sunday at the gazebo at Mustang Town Center, sponsored by Your Choice Pregnancy Center.

The event will offer free food, booths for children, bounce area, balloon clown, live music and free blood pressure checks.

Those attending are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs to the festival that will last from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. For more information, call 376-4547.

Thirteen years in the United States has taught Dora Gonzalez just enough English to barely get by.

logoBut now that her child is struggling with a learning disability, she said she must learn more to understand the youth’s teachers.

“I never go to school, because I don’t have the opportunity,” she said. “Because all of the time — go, go, go. The job, spend all of the time.”

Hundreds of parents in Canadian County live in fear of a knock at their door — afraid of being split from their families and sent to Central or South America.

logoDora Gonzales has lived with her family in the United States for 13 years. While families like hers can’t hope to be paid as much for their work as an American, she said it’s still better than the $5.50 per day they would have earned in Mexico.

7 p.m. Tuesday: “Get Your Reading Kicks on Route 66”

A fall book discussion series on “Get Your Reading Kicks on Route 66” will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mustang Public Library.

The first book in the series will be Michael Wallis’ “Route 66: The Mother Road.” Roger Bromert, from Weatherford, will lead the discussion.
