Canadian County wheat farmers reaped a record harvest for 2008 with high field yields and high-quality grain meeting skyrocketing prices.

Life-long farmer Ray Bornemann said his family has finished harvesting their 1,300 acres of wheat, with yields ranging from 45 bushels per acre to 70 bushels per acre. He said most farmers are satisfied with a 40-bushel per acre average.

“We have had real good yields,” he said. “Some of it has been the best I have ever harvested.”
