Councilmembers: Utility increase could spawn election defeatBy Traci Chapman Some City Council members calculated Thursday a vote in favor of proposed utility rate increases could spell defeat for incumbents’ bids for re-election. Ward 2 Councilwoman Kathleen Moon said residents would not accept a rate increase. When the last increase went into effect in 2004, Moon said the last Council “completely turned over.” Ward 4 Councilman Keith Bryan agreed, saying, “We’re all going to be off the Council if we increase utility rates.” Landrith said he would not support a utility rate increase. Always a teacherBy Carolyn Cole Norma Holley will retire this month after almost three decades teaching and counseling thousands of Mustang children. The community is invited to her retirement celebration at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the senior high center at the Bridge Assembly of God. While Holley said she’s always felt like a teacher, helping her younger siblings and later her own children, she started her professional life working at a lumberyard.
