Between Friends headlines ASI free concert tonight: how to attend

Cal Poly will host sibling alt-pop duo BETWEEN FRIENDS for a campus concert on Tuesday, Oct. 6, drawing attention because the pair commands a large streaming audience and their shows often sell out quickly. ASI is producing the event at the Cal Poly Recreation Center, and organizers say the logistics — from ticket registration to a mandatory in-person waiver — will shape which students can attend.

Savannah and Brandon Hudson, who perform as BETWEEN FRIENDS, have built a substantial online following: their music attracts millions of monthly listeners and their single “affection” has amassed hundreds of millions of streams, according to their booking agency, Goodlive Artists. The performance at Cal Poly follows a recent trend of national touring acts appearing at university venues.

Doors open at 6 p.m.; a student DJ, Dylan Riley, is scheduled to take the stage at 7 p.m. ASI is coordinating the schedule and entry procedures.

How to attend

  • Date & time: Tuesday, Oct. 6 — doors at 6 p.m.; student DJ at 7 p.m.
  • Location: Cal Poly Recreation Center
  • Ticket registration: Opens Saturday, Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. on the Cal Poly ticket office website
  • Waiver & wristbands: In-person waiver signing required at an ASI booth in the UU Plaza — Monday, Oct. 5 from noon–4 p.m. or Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 8 a.m.–noon; attendees receive a wristband after signing
  • ID requirements: Bring a government-issued ID and a valid PolyCard to register
  • Transfer policy: ASI says wristbands and waiver rules mean tickets cannot be transferred

Students who typically attend ASI’s outdoor plaza concerts said the move indoors changes the decision to go. “When it’s at the plaza, you can just walk by and hear it,” said Jessica Danhi, a nutrition sophomore. “If it’s inside, you have to actually commit.”

Lana Eng, a freshman studying graphic communications, said she hasn’t been to a free ASI show yet but would consider this one if friends were going. “I haven’t heard of BETWEEN FRIENDS, but I’d probably go with a group,” she said.

ASI’s in-person registration and wristband system aims to verify attendee identity and confirm waivers before the show. Because entry depends on a wristband collected in advance, organizers have prohibited ticket transfers.

With registration opening Oct. 2, students planning to attend should be prepared to bring required identification during the UU Plaza sign-ups and to register early; demand could outpace wristband availability once registration begins.
