Maryland high school softball: vote now for this week’s standout player

With April winding down and postseason brackets set to open, Maryland high school softball is heating up—and so is the weekly vote to name the state’s standout player. Fans have nominated 18 athletes for performances from April 20–26; voting closes Sunday, May 3, at 11:59 p.m. PT, and the winner will be revealed next week.

Last week’s Player of the Week was Isabel Camara of Good Counsel. This week’s field includes players from public and private programs across the state, several with college commitments and multiple dominant pitching or sluggers’ nights that could shift playoff momentum.

Standouts to watch

Hannah Wiseman produced one of the most complete weeks in the state. On the mound she combined a no-hit performance with a 13-strikeout outing and allowed no earned runs across 11 innings—numbers that underline why college programs recruited her. She also supplied timely hitting, finishing 5-for-6 with multiple RBIs.

Carly Wright delivered relentless offense for B-CC, slugging three homers and collecting nine RBIs in a three-game span. Those extra-base hits and run production helped her team in high-scoring affairs and make her a strong contender in the poll.

Madalee Hunley once again showed up in the box score for Huntingtown, going 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs in a lopsided victory. Consistency in big wins is a key factor voters often reward.

  • Voting deadline: Sunday, May 3, 11:59 p.m. PT.
  • Winner announced: Next week, after polls close.
  • Nominees cover performances from games played April 20–26 and represent a mix of pitchers and position players.

How the voting works

The poll is intended to spotlight strong weekly performances and give fans a simple way to show support. It is not tied to formal awards or prizes; rather, it amplifies standout efforts from the high school season. Large vote totals are possible and don’t change the editorial purpose: to recognize players who made a difference for their teams that week.

With playoffs beginning, votes for Player of the Week can also be an early barometer of who enters the postseason with momentum. Cast your ballot before the May 3 deadline and check back next week to see who voters chose as Maryland’s top high school softball performer for the week of April 20–26.
