After last season’s breakthrough, Lexington’s girls lacrosse program arrives at postseason play with renewed confidence and depth — and a 13-match winning streak that has the Lady Wildcats among the favorites in Class 5A. Their next test comes Friday, when a confident Lexington squad faces Wando in the Lower State semifinals with a repeat state title squarely in view.
The swift transformation under Coach Tortorello
In just three seasons, coach Tiffany Tortorello has turned Lexington into a consistent challenger across South Carolina. What began as a project has become a program identity: disciplined practices, developing depth and clear expectations for postseason performance.

A season that set new standards
Last year’s run rewrote the school record book. Lexington posted a program-best 17 wins, falling only once — to Oceanside Collegiate Academy — and captured the District 4 crown, the Lower State title and the Class 5A Division I championship.
The accomplishments did more than fill a trophy case; they raised the bar internally. Players say that experience hardened the team and reshaped offseason goals from “make the tournament” to “win it again.”
Current form and what it means
This season the Lady Wildcats entered the postseason at 14-2 overall, repeating as an undefeated District 4 champion and closing the regular slate on a 13-match winning streak. That run has positioned them as a program trying to cement its place near the top of the state.
“Winning last year gave us belief and a blueprint,” senior midfielder Lilly Sundell said, crediting coaching, culture and the roster’s depth for the team’s progress. “We know what it takes to get back to the big game, and that’s our goal again.”
- Coach: Tiffany Tortorello (3rd season)
- Last season: Program-record 17 wins; Class 5A Division I state champions
- 2026 regular season: 14-2 overall; undefeated in District 4
- Current streak: 13 consecutive victories entering playoffs

- Potential Lower State final opponents: Carolina Forest or River Bluff
A familiar postseason path
Lexington’s first postseason hurdle is Wando, which reached the semifinals after a 14-1 win over Blythewood. Should the Lady Wildcats advance, they would face the winner of the Carolina Forest–River Bluff semifinal for the Lower State crown.
On the other half of the bracket, the Upper State is led by top seeds Spartanburg and JL Mann. Spartanburg is slated to meet Boiling Springs in the Upper State semifinals, while JL Mann will play Byrnes.
Beyond talent: culture and expectations
Players point to a combination of skill and structure as the reason Lexington can compete at this level. Practices pushed by the coaching staff, plus a roster that has embraced the championship standard, make a return trip to state a realistic objective rather than a long shot.
For the community and the program, a successful postseason run would signal that last year’s title was not an outlier but the start of sustained competitiveness — a shift that changes how opponents prepare for Lexington and how recruits view the program.
Friday’s semifinal is more than a game. It’s a measure of whether the Lady Wildcats can turn momentum into another championship run and solidify a new era in Lexington lacrosse.
