Modest Mouse brings Carolina Rose to Central Coast stage

Indie-rock stalwarts Modest Mouse will play a one-night show at the Avila Beach resort on October 22, the event promoter Shabang announced on Instagram. The booking arrives as the band prepares to release a new studio album in early June, making the concert one of the more notable Central Coast dates this year.

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Caroline Rose is listed as the supporting act. Promoters say a presale began this morning at 10 a.m., with general public tickets scheduled to go on sale tomorrow at 10 a.m. through the Shabang Posh website. Promoter partners offering presale codes include Shabang, Good Vibes and Otter Productions.

For Central Coast fans, this marks Modest Mouse’s fourth performance in San Luis Obispo County across roughly 13 years. The band previously sold out the Alex Madonna Expo Center in 2013, returned for a show at Viña Robles Amphitheater in Paso Robles in 2014, and played the Expo Center again in May 2018.

Formed in Issaquah, Washington, in 1993, the group rose to mainstream attention with the 2004 record Good News for People Who Love Bad News, which sold more than a million copies. Their follow-up, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank (2007), opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

After a lengthy break between albums, the band returned with releases in 2015 and 2021. Their next record, titled An Eraser and a Maze, is due June 5, a release that will likely shape setlists and fan interest when they hit the stage in October.

Shabang — started more than a decade ago by students at Cal Poly — has grown into a recognizable promoter on the Central Coast. This spring its annual Shabang festival took place May 2–3 at the Dairy Creek Golf Course in San Luis Obispo, underscoring the organization’s expanding event calendar.

Local promoters say ticket allocations are limited and that presale codes have already circulated through partner channels. For fans tracking the band’s return to the region, the combination of a new album and a single headline date makes this a headline concert for the fall calendar.
