Cal Poly study halls go campuswide: new support for students during semester switch

Cal Poly’s College of Liberal Arts is holding five drop‑in study halls this spring to help students adjust ahead of the university’s move to a semester calendar in Fall 2026. The events offer one-on-one time with advisors and faculty to answer practical questions about course choices, credit conversion and schedule planning.

Open to students from any major, the sessions are designed to address the nuts-and-bolts of the campus-wide semester conversion. Attendees can compare quarter and semester catalogs, use the university’s semester equivalency guide, confirm how completed units will transfer, and map out a first-semester schedule that preserves progress toward degree requirements.

Each meeting pairs College of Liberal Arts advising staff with faculty from selected departments. Space is limited, so an RSVP is required; organizers note refreshments will be available. Several sessions remain through May, giving students time to follow up before Fall 2026 registration and advising holds take effect.

  • Thursday, April 23 — 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Building 22, Room 312 (featured: ANG, GRC, JOUR, LAES, SOC)
  • Thursday, May 7 — 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., Building 47, Room 24B (featured: COMS, ENGL, ES, HIST, WGQS minors)

Why this matters now: the calendar change can affect course sequencing, elective availability and the timeline to graduate. Meeting with advisors before schedules and catalogs shift gives students a clearer picture of which classes will satisfy degree requirements and whether substitutions are needed.

Practical tips for attendees: bring an unofficial transcript, any transfer credit evaluations you’ve received, and a copy of your current degree progress report. Having these documents on hand will make it easier for advisors to identify equivalencies and flag potential gaps.

For full details on the transition and to find the RSVP page, visit Cal Poly’s semester transition website or contact CLA Advising directly — advisors remain available outside these sessions for students who need individual appointments.
