02/25/2009 - 10:30am

Family medicine doctor Heather Barnes will speak about coronary heart disease prevention and treatment Feb. 25 at Integris Canadian Valley Regional Hospital. Her presentation, “Straight from the Heart,” begins at 10:30 a.m.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. About 29 percent of deaths in the United States are related to heart disease.

AARP volunteers are helping elderly and low income Mustang residents prepare their federal and state income tax returns on Mondays and Tuesdays at Town Center through April 15. Volunteers are available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The service is free, and there are no fees to file taxes electronically. AARP membership is not necessary nor is there a minimum age requirement, although residents older than age 60 are encouraged to seek aid.

Volunteers have IRS certification to prepare simple returns but are prohibited from working on business returns.
