Remington Park heavy-equipment day lets kids operate construction machines

Show summary Hide summary

This weekend, families in northeast Oklahoma City can get an up-close look at the machines that build and repair the city’s roads and utilities. Remington Park will host a hands-on showcase of heavy equipment on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, giving children and adults a supervised chance to sit in cabs, operate controls and learn what the utility industry does behind the barriers.

What to expect at the Remington Park demonstration

Organized by the National Utility Contractors Association, the event is part of the nationwide Dozer Days series that began in Washington and has expanded to other states. NUCA representatives say the goal is twofold: demystify everyday work crews do and introduce young people to careers in construction and utilities.

  • Hands-on equipment: multiple sizes of excavators, skid steers and dozers
  • Cranes and other large gear on display for public inspection
  • Opportunities for supervised operation—children as young as five can sit in machines with a trained operator
  • Family-focused activities designed to show how utility crews work and why their work matters

Ben Arthur and Hayden Musgrove, who are helping coordinate the Oklahoma City stop, emphasize safety and access. Trained operators will remain with anyone using controls, and the experience is meant to be informative rather than purely recreational.

Why this matters now

Events like Dozer Days aim to make the trades more visible at a time when many communities are talking about infrastructure projects and labor needs. By opening equipment and explaining the work, organizers hope to spark interest in vocational paths and give parents a clearer sense of what on-the-job roles actually involve.

For families, the value is immediate: kids get a memorable, tactile experience that most school field trips don’t offer, and workers get to show their children the tools of their trade.

Logistics and tickets

Dozer Days will be open at Remington Park on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. Tickets are available online for $10 and cost $15 at the gate. Children under 5 are admitted free.

Organizers recommend arriving early to view the full range of equipment and to allow enough time for supervised, guided experiences. Weather and event details are subject to change, so visitors should check the event listing before traveling.
