Nevada high school QB erupts for 367 yards, 5 TDs after rocky start

Down two interceptions and tied early, Oregon State recruit Thaddeus Thatcher rewrote Friday night’s script in Las Vegas, tossing for 367 yards and five touchdowns to lift Arbor View past Coronado, 37-13. The victory puts the Aggies into the inaugural Clark County School District Division I Superintendent’s Cup title game, a notable capstone as local high school football undergoes a major realignment.

Turnovers swung momentum

Arbor View trailed 6-6 after a messy first quarter, but the game pivoted when the Aggies’ defense started producing takeaways. Senior defensive end Ryden Kaltsas boxed out a play in the end zone, forcing and recovering a fumble for a touchdown that flipped the scoreboard.

Defensive takeaways shifted momentum and created scoring chances for Arbor View.

Kaltsas recovered a second Coronado fumble late in the half, and running back Kamareion Bell added a first-quarter fumble recovery plus an interception before halftime. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Arbor View forced three first-half fumbles and turned each into a touchdown — a sequence that created separation and predictable field position for the offense.

Thatcher answers a rocky start

After the two early interceptions, Thatcher settled into a rhythm. He finished 25 of 33 passing, including big plays that erased Coronado’s early resistance.

A key sequence: on a 40-yard connection to Texas A&M commit Damani Warren Arbor View seized control in the second quarter. With just over a minute left before halftime, the defense recovered another turnover and on the very next snap Thatcher hit UCLA commit Zac Fares for a 15-yard touchdown — a momentum-swing that sent the Aggies into the locker room with a commanding lead.

Supporting cast made the performance possible

Thatcher’s numbers were eye-catching, but he had dependable targets and a defense that kept producing opportunities. Several Division I commits were heavily involved.

  • Zac Fares (UCLA commit) — team-high receiving yardage and a touchdown.
  • Kai Cypher (UNLV commit) — two touchdown catches, 88 receiving yards.
  • Damani Warren (Texas A&M commit) — 40-yard touchdown that swung momentum.
  • Kamareion Bell — active on both sides of the ball with a fumble recovery, an interception and 50 rushing yards.

Coronado’s offense had a bright spot in running back Matthias Rantisi, who rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown, but the Cougars could not overcome the turnovers or Thatcher’s late surge.

What’s at stake this week

Arbor View will host Centennial next Friday at 7 p.m. in the CCSD Division I Superintendent’s Cup final. Centennial reached the title game after a 27-24 overtime win over Liberty.

This championship arrives amid notable structural change: thirty Clark County School District programs withdrew from the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association’s football setup this season to compete independently. That context gives this first Superintendent’s Cup extra weight for teams and their communities.

Arbor View has reached the state’s top-classification final in each of the past two seasons, falling both times to Bishop Gorman. This year they have a fresh path to a title, and if Thatcher can replicate anything close to Friday’s five-touchdown outing, the Aggies will be serious contenders to finish the season with a championship.
