The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released the postseason brackets for boys golf, with sectionals set for Wednesday, May 13 and districts on Monday, May 18 — a compact schedule that decides which teams and individuals will reach the state meets on May 26-27. Those two state rounds will be played in Waterloo (Classes 3A and 2A) and Newton (Class 1A), making this week critical for programs across the state.
Last season’s team champions — Waverly-Shell Rock, Columbus Catholic and Boyden-Hull — return as benchmarks, while Johnston’s Andrew Johannsen, who captured the Class 4A individual crown in the fall, remains a recent name to watch. With qualifiers narrowed quickly through sectionals and districts, every shot this month carries added consequence for players and coaches.
- Sectionals: Wednesday, May 13
- Districts: Monday, May 18
- State Tournament: May 26-27 (3A & 2A in Waterloo; 1A in Newton)
- Qualification format:
- Top 3 teams from each sectional advance to districts.
- Top 3 teams at each district move on to state.
- From non-advancing teams at each site, the top two individual performers (plus ties) also qualify for the state field.
