Dozens of Canadian Valley Technology Center students qualified for state contests in their respective trade divisions, and a couple have already punched a ticket for national competitions later this spring.
Yukon senior Jon Yarbor and Minco junior Cora Wright recently won both district and state competitions for Interactive Media and Web Technology.
The duo will compete May 5-8 at the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif.
Yarbor and Wright created a web site called PSDVoid.com, where subscribers are able to submit Photoshop artwork, make edits to existing artwork, follow their favorite members, and share in a forum or blog.
Elly Reynolds and Kirstie Arnold, both Yukon seniors, were state runners-up in Small Business Management Team, just missing qualifying to compete at nationals.
Computer repair and networking student Janathon Darley, a Yukon junior, also placed second at state competition in computer servicing and troubleshooting, while El Reno resident Jared Booth was third in computer security, and Yukon junior Tanner Shinn was fourth statewide in computer security.
First-place finishers at the district level include the welding trio of Tanner Hafner, Yukon junior; Cody Bryant, Union City senior; and Wes Russell, Piedmont junior. Andrew Gore, a Calumet junior, placed first in welding job readiness.
Canadian Valley's opening/closing team also took top honors at district SkillsUSA contest as did Emilio Diaz and Jujuan Pendtleton, who are both El Reno residents studying construction trades.
Also placing first were Kaitlin Little, Mustang junior in graphic design; Jenna Socash, Calumet senior in cosmetology; Haley Rader, Yukon adult in graphic design; and Roger Powell, Yukon adult in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.
These service careers students placed first in individual competitions at district contest: Bobby Bunyard and Joshua Sampson, both of Mustang; Kyle Clemmons, Lance England and Hunter Elder, all of Piedmont; Brian Davis and Travis Wood, both of El Reno; and Wendy Gutierrez of Bethany.
Health Careers students Rosa Cervantes and MacKenzie Bauer, both of Yukon, were among the top 20 statewide in nursing assisting. Heather Black, a Piedmont senior, placed among the top five on the knowledge test in pathophysiology, and El Reno senior Ariel Kuhl was in the top five statewide on a human growth and development test.

Precision machining: Michael Wall, Alex McCaughey, Trevor McCain and Ben Mitchum;
