Mustang got in two more tournaments before regionals begin on Monday.
The Bronco girls' tennis team took fourth place in the Heritage Hall Tournament on Thursday and third in the Bishop McGuinness Tournament on Tuesday.
“The tournament on Thursday was tough; we didn't get good seeds and we faced some tough competition,” MHS head coach Dave Rankin said.
Haphuong Nguyen competed in one singles in both tournaments. Nguyen took sixth place on Thursday. She lost her first match to Edmond Memorial 2-6/0-6. She beat Edmond Santa Fe 6-2/6-3 before losing to Guthrie 4-6/6-4/5-7.
Nguyen found the same results, sixth place on Tuesday. She lost to Edmond Memorial 5-7/1-6. She followed up with a win over Norman North 6-2/ 7-6 (7-3) before losing to Bishop McGuinness 4-6/3-6.
Laura Wilcox took fourth place in two singles on Thursday. She defeated Guthrie 6-2/6-2 but lost to Carl Albert 6-3/0-6/3-6. She lost her last match to Edmond Memorial 3-6/0-6.
Madalynn Reeves took sixth place in Tuesday's tournament. She lost her first match in a tiebreaker 0-6/6-2/ (10-12) to Edmond North. She got a bye in the next round and lost her next match 2-6/1-6 to Westmoore.
Amy Bynum and Melanie Evans competed in two doubles on both days. The duo took sixth place on Thursday. They lost to Anardarko 2-6/2-6 in their first match. They followed up with a win over Edmond Santa Fe 6-1/6-1. They lost to Carl Albert 4-6/6-2/4-6.
Bynum and Evans fared better on Tuesday, taking third place. They beat Bishop McGuinness 6-2/0-6/ (10-3) in the first match. They lost to Edmond North 0-6/2-6 before beating Edmond Memorial 6-2/3-6/ (10-4).
Tina Nguyen and Ashlynn Sutton won first place at the Thursday tournament. They beat Heritage Hall 6-2/0-6/7-6.They also beat Carl Albert 7-6/5-7/6-2 and Edmond Memorial 6-1/6-4 in the finals.
“Two doubles did a great job beating the third seed, second seed and the first seed in the finals,” Rankin said. “They are really starting to play some good tennis.”
Nguyen and Sutton took fourth place on Tuesday. They beat Putnam City West 6-0/6-0. They lost to champion Bishop McGuinness 2-6/0-6 and then to Edmond Memorial 5-7/1-6.
