Four Bronco wrestlers cracked the all-conference team recently, capping off a season where three grapplers qualified for the state tournament.
“Making the all-conference team is pretty good, especially being in the tough conference we're in,” head coach Louis Edmonds said.
In wrestling, there are only first-team selections and honorable mention.
Freshman Blayne Ramey, who competed in the 130-pound class, was the lonesome first-team selection for MHS. Despite being hurt for most the season, he went undefeated against conference opponents. He also finished one match away from placing at regionals in Sapulpa and qualifying for state.
“He had one of the not-so-tough weights in our conference, but he wrestled well,” Edmonds said. “For a freshman to make it is pretty good too.”
Senior Bobby Wilson (112 pound-class) capped off his senior season with an honorable mention spot on the all-conference team.
“I was glad to see Bobby make it, being a senior and as hard as he has worked for it,” Edmonds said.
Wilson compiled a 20-11 record for the year. He took fourth place at regionals, but lost his first two matches at state.
Sophomore Tanner Hamilton (119-pound class) was also named honorable mention all conference.
Hamilton placed fourth at regionals, but rallied to take third place at the state meet. He lost to the state champion in his first match. Hamilton battled through the consolation bracket with three straight wins to claim the bronze medal.
He compiled a 20-11 record for the year. A grappler from Choctaw claimed second at state to earn first-team ahead of him.
Sophomore Weston Slater (125-pound class) was the final grappler to make the list.
Slater qualified for state after finishing third in regionals. He went 1-2 at the state tournament. Slater compiled a 28-10 record on the year.
