One school record was broken and a handful of personal bests were accomplished at Thursday's conference meet.
The Mustang girls' track team took second place in the Metro Athletic Conference with 97 team points. Edmond Santa Fe took first with 191 points, while Edmond North came in second with 136 points.
“This maybe the best overall performance since I became coach here,” MHS head coach David Lorenz said. “Finishing third in our conference is a good thing, with Santa Fe and North both perennial top-five teams in the state.”
The 1,600-meter relay team set a new school record. The team comprised of Desharion Baldwin, Ashton Adams, Jamie Rateliff and Kala Ratliff ran a 4:03.02 and claimed the silver medal.
The other three relay teams each placed to earn team points as well. The 3,200-meter relay team made up of Rateliff, Shelbi Legg, Angela Zanotti and Ratliff ran a 9:57.13, their best time of the season. They took second place as well.
The 400-meter relay team took fourth with a time of 51.33. Chaunmon Banks, Baldwin, Jordan Cox and Lacey Rhodes make up that team. The 800-meter relay team comprised of Taylor Denison, Baldwin, Cox and Rhodes took fifth place with a time of 1:49.71.
“That's the first time we've been under 1:50 since I've been here,” Lorenz said.
Rateliff took second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.98, five-hundredths of a second from winning the race. Ashton Adams finished third in the event with a time of 1:01.38. Hannah Kellogg was sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:31.53. Legg took third in the mile with a 5:51.29.
In field events, Rhodes took second in the long jump with a mark of 16-foot-9 3/4 inches. She also took third in the high jump with a leap of five feet. Megan Scrivner was second in the shot put with a hurl of 38-foot-4 1/2 inches. Mariah Garcia claimed second in the discus with a toss of 118-foot-8 inches. Kelsey Graves took fourth in the same event with a throw of 115-foot-7 inches.
