The Mustang boys' tennis team took fifth place at an eight-team tournament in its last action Friday at the Heritage Hall tournament before the regional.
“It was a pretty tough tournament with some really good tennis players competing,” MHS head coach Will Allen said.
Mustang's Cody Nguyen finished in third place in the one singles division. Nguyen went 2-1 on the day. He defeated Guthrie in straight sets 6-1/6-0. He then fell to Heritage Hall 1-6/1-6. Nguyen won the third-place match by injury default over Carl Albert.
Keith Morris took seventh place in two singles, going 1-2. He lost to Edmond Memorial 0-6/0-6 and Carl Albert 5-7/7-6/(3-10). Morris beat Anadarko 6-4/6-2 in the seventh-place match.
Alex Besov and Don Nguyen grabbed sixth place in one doubles. The duo went 1-2. They fell to Heritage Hall 6-7/7-5/(6-10). They beat Anadarko by default but lost to Guthrie 3-6/1-6.
Keegan Zimmerman and Steven Wiedemann also claimed sixth place in two doubles, going 1-2. They lost their opening match to Carl Albert 7-6/1-6/(6-10). They took care of business against Oklahoma Bible Academy, winning 6-0/6-0. They were losing to Guthrie 5-7/0-1 when Mustang defaulted to pick up the loss.
The Broncos compete in their regional on Monday at Earlywine Tennis Center.
