MHS CLINCHES HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
BY CLINT CRAWFORD
Edition:Friday, May 01, 2009

Players on the Mustang girls' soccer team set a goal of making it to and winning the state championship at the beginning of the season.
The journey to that goal begins Tuesday. The Broncos will host the Moore Lions in the first round matchup. Kickoff for that game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the MHS soccer complex.
“Having home field advantage makes all the difference in the world,” MHS head coach Mike Mason said. “We love playing on our home field in front of our fans.”
Mason said Moore is a team the Broncos should beat if they play well, but the Lions could sneak in and get a win if Mustang gets careless and lets them hang around.
“It's kind of like pothole that you can step in and break your ankle and not finish the race,” he said. “Our theme all year has been 'take care of business,' and we have to do that.”
Mustang (11-1, 6-1) did so Tuesday night and earned its spot in the playoffs with a 4-0 win over Westmoore in a contest that decided who took second place in District 1-6A. The Broncos coasted to the win with three goals in the first half.
Alissa Jones put MHS on top at the 33:21 mark in the contest. Her shot from 25 yards out found the back of the net. Sara Rowe set up the goal on a pass to Jones.
Bailey Boulware scored a pair of goals at the 20:16 and 15:59 marks of the first half. Her first goal came off a beautiful cross by Abby Hodgen right in front of the goal that Boulware hit with her foot as the ball was still in flight. Boulware's second goal came on a ball she retrieved while making a run. Jones' pass hit her in stride. Boulware tapped her shot to the right past the Jaguars' goalie in a one-on-one situation.
Chaulsey Gibson scored the last goal of the contest in the second half. Her goal came with 26:26 left in regulation. Jennifer Alesch sent a leading pass that Gibson outran defenders to get. Gibson also beat the goalie in a one-on-one situation with a soft shot to the right.
Ashley Andersen made four saves, while Natasha Fuentes made two saves in goal for the Broncos. MHS recorded eight shots on goal.
