The regular season is a thing of the past, and Mustang gets a fresh start in the regional tournament beginning Tuesday.
The Bronco baseball team was 13-18 heading into its last regular season game against Chickasha, but results from that game weren't available as of press time.
Everyone is 0-0 now that the playoffs are about to get under way. However, the losing regular season record put Mustang in a tough regional. The Broncos are in the Yukon regional that includes three of the top pitchers in the state committed to Division I programs. The list includes Chad James of Yukon committed to Oklahoma State University, Ryan Gibson of Yukon committed to the University of Oklahoma and Andrew Heaney of Putnam City committed to OSU.
Mustang will face No. 13 Putnam City in the first round at 4 p.m. The loser of that game will face the loser of Putnam City West/Yukon at 6:30 p.m. the same night. The Millers and Patriots play the inaugural game of the regional at 1:30 p.m.
The regional is double elimination with the winner getting a bid to the state tournament.
Mustang lost two more games to Choctaw in a double header on Tuesday before Thursday's game at Moore was cancelled due to rain.
Mustang 5, Choctaw 7
The Yellowjackets pulled ahead 7-2 in the sixth inning with three runs. MHS answered with three runs as well but couldn't put together any offense in the seventh inning.
Owen Geberth pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and received the loss. Jake Henthorne had two RBIs. Colin Baker and Brad Wake each scored two runs.
Mustang 4, Choctaw 12
The Broncos gave up five runs in the first inning. Choctaw scored at least one run in every inning except the second. MHS scored a run in the first and three runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to 7-4. The Yellowjackets added five more runs over the next three innings to coast to an easy win.
Eric Partin picked up the loss, throwing three innings and allowing six earned runs and striking out three hitters. Garrett Crain came in to relieve him, allowing five more runs but fanning four batters.
