Alton Eugene ‘Buddy’ Poindexter
Buddy Poindexter was born in Grandfield, Okla. on March 26, 1947 to Robert Elsworth Poindexter and Louella (Atteberry) Poindexter.
He was raised in rural southeast Oklahoma with seven siblings. He left home at 16 to find his path starting in the oilfield. Throughout his life he held many jobs, including construction, teacher, police officer, and truck driver but always returning to the oil field.
In March of 1968, he married Barbara Justus and they had two children. In April of 1993 he remarried Linda Phillips and assumed the role of father of her two children.
While building a home in Mustang he worked all across the country as an oil field consultant. When at home, he spent his time working on his property, gardening and playing with his dogs. After a long battle with illness he passed peacefully on May 2, 2014 surrounded by family.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brother, sister, and one grandchild.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Poindexter of Mustang; daughter, Nancy Fields and husband Jeff of Oklahoma City; son, Roy Don “Tex” Ekstrom and wife Tami of Wichita, Kan.; step-daughter, Jennifer Phillips of Oklahoma City; and step-son, Clayton Phillips and wife Laura of Bridge Creek.
He was also survived by brothers and sisters Joy Harris of Mustang, Chester White and wife Barbara of Hot Springs AR., Goldie Powell and husband Delbert of Colgate, Okla., Karon Parker and husband Curtis of Ravia, Okla., Marlene House of Oklahoma City, Danny Ross White of Atoka, Okla. and Jerry Poindexter and wife Patricia of Lufkin, Texas.
Eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family also survived him.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the Chapel of The Good Shepherd at McNeil’s Mustang Funeral Service, with interment following in Mustang Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.mcneilsmustangfs.com.
