Harold ‘Dale’ Nelson
Harold “Dale” Nelson, age 76, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014.
He was born August 20, 1937 in Bismarck, ND to Clifford and Hazel (Smith) Nelson. Dale grew up in Driscoll, ND and joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17. He served during the Vietnam War as an aerospace physiological Instructor and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant after 23 years. After retirement he spent time in Houston, Texas, working with NASA before coming to the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma City. Dale loved his family, from spending time with his wife of 56 years Rachel (Riojas) to being with family around the pool and at family gatherings.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Harvey, Duwayne, Curtis and Wendell.
Dale is survived by his wife Rachel of Mustang; daughter, Carrie Mayle and husband Doug of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; Diana Gates and husband John of Mustang; sons, David of Mustang; and Steve and wife Shyrel of Mustang. Also by grandchildren, William Mayle, Kristin Rae and husband Justin, Kendra Hale and husband Jarold, Erica Nelson and fiance Stephen Gambill, Jacklyn Owens and husband David, Clayton Nelson, Stephanie Secondi, Lauren Nelson, Randi Nelson and Hayden Nelson; great-grandchildren, Joseph Hale, Lydiah Hale and Tristan Owens; one brother, Leonard Nelson of Bismarck, ND; and one sister, Doris Stein of Steele, ND.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in the name of Dale Nelson be made to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Building Fund.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 12 at 2 p.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Mustang, with interment to follow in the Mustang Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.mcneilsmustangfs.com.
