Thurman J. ‘TJ’ Hunker
Thurman J. “TJ” Hunker, age 93 died peacefully at the Veterans Center in Norman, OK on Wednesday March 5, 2014.
He was born Dec. 3, 1920 in Wheatland, Okla. to Thurman Joshua and Lucille M. (Weiche) Hunker and lived his entire life in Wheatland. He was a graduate of Capitol Hill High School and had a degree in business from Oklahoma City University. He proudly served his country in World War II serving in Italy, Africa and France. He was in the 45th Division, 645th Tank Destroyer Unit. After his service he returned to Wheatland where for many years was in business with his father at The Hunker Agency. He serviced the surrounding community with insurance, tax accounting and was the local tag agent. He was a lifetime member of Wheatland United Methodist Church and served many years on the cemetery board of Pleasant Valley Cemetery, where he also served as cemetery sexton. TJ was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dollie; and stepson Eddie. He is survived by two nieces, Janice Low of Oklahoma City and Sharon Trogdon of Broken Arrow; several great-nieces and nephews and three step-grandchildren, Brandy, Byron and Kevin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any veteran’s service organization or the American Cancer Society.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, in the Chapel of The Good Shepherd at McNeil’s Mustang Funeral Service. Interment with military honors will be held at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Wheatland, Okla. Online condolences may be made at www.mcneilsmustangfs.com.
