Mustang girls tennis team enters the new season with big expectations on its shoulders.
The Lady Broncos tennis squad returns all six starters from last year’s team that had four state qualifiers and one state placer.
Mustang opens the 2014 season at 8 a.m. Monday with the Wesmoore Tournament at Earlywine Park. They host Yukon at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in a dual match. MHS plays in the Carl Albert Tournament at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center, and they play in the U.S. Grant Tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center.
Mustang did not graduate one senior off last year’s team. The Bronco girls have four seniors on this year’s squad – Kyndal Heath, Jessica Garner, Taylor Sullivan and Heather Underwood.
The No.1 singles player this year is going to be sophomore Stevie Josey. Josey was a state placer last season as a freshman. The No.2 singles player will be Heath.
The No.1 doubles team will be Garner and Sullivan, and the No.2 doubles team will be Underwood and junior Sarah Adkins.
“We are really excited about the team we are going to have this year,” Mustang head coach Dave Rankin said. “We return all of our starters from last year’s group that had a strong season. We had four state qualifiers and one state placer, so we expect to do really good things this year.”
