Boys’ tennis looks to take game to next level

Bronco boys tennis squad enters the 2014 season with lofty goals set in place.

Mustang graduated just one senior from last year’s group, and they return all six starters from a year ago.

The Broncos open the season at 8 a.m. at the Carl Albert tournament at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center and the Westmoore tournament at Earlywine Park. They host rival Yukon in a dual match at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and play in the U.S. Grant tournament at 8 a.m. March 8.

The Broncos will have three seniors on this year’s squad – Colby Le, Adam Nguyen and Tommy Ngo.

All three of the seniors were state tournament qualifiers a year ago. Three other state qualifiers from last year are juniors Damon Truong, Jason Tsai and Trevor Berg.

Senior Dat Le and junior Sean Marzec will be counted on as well this season for the Broncos. Marzec is currently out with a knee injury, but is expected to return soon.

The No.1 singles player this season will be Colby Le. The No.2 singles player is expected to be Nguyen. The No.1 doubles team will be Truong and Ngo, and the No.2 doubles team will be Tsai and Berg.

“This is a very dedicated group,” Mustang head coach Will Allen said. “We have a lot of experience coming back this year, so we expect to be in the upper level of every tournament we compete in this season. The guys have been working hard all year ever since the summer on improving their games. It’s going to be an exciting year.”
