Wrestlers ready for regional
By Kyle Salomon
Mustang wrestlers will return to action Friday at Southmoore for regional competition after having nearly two weeks off from live matches.
The Broncos grappling team will be one of 15 teams from the west side of the state competing at the regional tournament.
How well the Mustang wrestlers finish in the two-day event will determine if the entire team or if several individuals go to the state tournament, which takes place Feb. 28 and March 1 at the Oklahoma City fairgrounds.
“I am really excited about how we finished the season as a team,” Mustang head coach Dave Rankin said. “I feel like we are wrestling our best coming down the stretch into regionals. It was good to have a break so we could get healed up and prepare as best we can for the postseason.”
The other 14 teams that will be at Southmoore are Choctaw, Edmond Memorial, Edmond North, Edmond Santa Fe, Lawton Ike, Lawton, Moore, Norman, Norman North, Putnam City, Putnam City North, Putnam City West, Southmoore, U.S. Grant, Westmoore and Yukon.
“We know it is going to be a tough challenge,” Rankin said. “But we are a confident group right now. I’m excited to see how we perform this weekend.”
Here are the Mustang wrestlers who will be competing in the 14 different weights in the tournament.
