Girls struggle against Santa Fe
By Kyle Salomon
The Mustang girls basketball team scored a season low Friday night in a 52-20 loss at home against Edmond Santa Fe. The Bronco ladies scored eight points halfway through the first period, but were only able to put 12 more on the board the remainder of the game.
The loss made it a season sweep for Edmond Santa Fe over Mustang, and dropped the Broncos’ overall record to 6-15.
No Mustang players scored in double figures. Senior center Brooke Irwin led the Broncos with six points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Addyson Lawson also had six points and grabbed three rebounds.
“It was a tough night,” Mustang head coach Kevin Korstjens said. “We turned the ball over way too many times to compete with a team as good as Santa Fe. We have to put this one behind us and focus on what we have in front of us.”
Midway through the first period the Bronco ladies had an 8-4 lead, but the Timberwolves went on a 20-0 run.
The Broncos managed to score just four points in 12 minutes of play from the midpoint of the first period until halftime.
The Lady Broncos scored only two points in the third period. MHS was able to tack on six points in the fourth.
The Broncos ended the night with 27 total rebounds, 12 forced Santa Fe turnovers, 27 committed turnovers, and made 12 out of 15 free throws.
