Irene M. (Elder) Becker

Irene M. (Elder) Becker age 87, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. 

She was born December 6, 1926 in Salina, Kan. to Henry and Martha (Benny) Elder.  Irene graduated high school from Salina, attended beauty school and received a business degree from Brown Mackey Business School.  She worked in the Salina High School cafeteria to allow her summers off with her children and later used her business degree keeping books for First National Bank in Oklahoma City and J.C. Penney.  She loved to fish, travel and cook and was best known for her “famous” German chocolate cake.  People often commented on her quirky sense of humor, for having the sweetest smile and, “Oh, Boy!” and “Oh, Really!” were some of her favorite sayings. Irene was a wonderful mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis LeRoy DeWitt (1959); husband, Wesley Becker (2008); her parents; sister, Julia; brother, Harry; and step-son, Randyl Becker.

Irene is survived by her children, Vicki Morgan and husband David; Dennis DeWitt and wife Cindy; and Sheryl Mugg.  Also by step-daughters, DeAnn Mills and husband Bill; Sharon Weese; Janet Machin and husband Gerald; and Cathy Stiebens; brothers, Bob Elder and wife Wilma; Richard Elder and wife Pauline; sister, Martha Arbuckle and husband Ralph; six grandchildren, 22 step-grandchildren and many precious great-grandchildren. 

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16 in the Chapel at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Salina, Kan. with interment to follow.
