Lawyers help 150 families set Thanksgiving table

One hundred fifty Mustang families will have a turkey to put on their Thanksgiving table, thanks to Denton Law Firm.
Law office staff, along with Denton family members and an energized dancing turkey, worked with Mustang firefighters to brave the cold Monday and hand out turkeys as part of Lawyers Fighting Hunger. It was the first time the holiday effort – also undertaken in El Reno, Oklahoma City, Norman and Tulsa – was made available to local families, Denton said.
The firm participated in last year’s El Reno event and staff members got the notion a need also existed in Mustang, Denton said.
“We wanted to bring the effort closer to home,” he said.
Karen Jacobs, administrator of Oklahoma Department of Human Services Office of Community and Faith Engagement, said organizers hoped to hand out 5,000 turkeys in the five communities this week.
In addition to handing out Thanksgiving turkeys, firefighters and law office staff served hamburgers and hot dogs, as a steady stream of people came to Mustang Fire Department to pick up their meal mainstay. The partnership was deemed a success, and plans for next year were already on the table, officials said.
“This is a fine example of community leaders working together for a worthy cause,” Denton said.
